Hi, Here are the serial numbers, by year, for the JD450 through JD450G models. JD450 Straight 1965 10001 - 16160 - 42767 - 65000 - 82276 - 1 102144 - 117587 JD450B 1970 117588 - 1 121124 - 1 138714 - 1 142295 - 1 164047 - 1 185799 - 2 207556 -?

There is an overlap in 1975 thru 1976 where JD450B and 450C models were made concurrently. We do not know the exact serial number of the last JD450B as a result. The main differences between the JD450B and JD450C are that the C went to a 4/219 CID Turbocharged engine from the 4/219 CID normally aspirated engine in the JD450B. Also, the JD450C changed from dry to wet steering clutches. However, there are some late JD450B's out there with wet steering clutches. The JD450B units were produced along with the JD450C until the demand for the non-turbo engine dropped off. The JD450B units changed over to the wet steering clutches used in the JD450C when the stock of dry-type steering clutch parts was depleted.

JD450C 1974 191829 - 2 219516 - 2 240368 - 2 261218 - 2 287195 - 3 313948 - 3 340910 - 3 355421 - 3 372282 - 3 389143 -? Again, we have an overlap between the JD450C and the JD450D. The power went up all of 3 HP, so I really don't know why there was an overlap this time. This makes little sense to me, actually. The serial number list says that the JD450D started in 1982 just past the serial number shown for the start of the JD450C 1983 production.

In 1984, the serial numbers jump to 700010, and I can't believe Deere made a couple hundred thousand 450D's in 1982! JD450D 1982 389172 -? 1983 700010 - 7 703985 - 7 711937 - End (probably 715503) JD450E 1985 715504 - 7 726000 - 7 733270 - 7 741669 -? Download hiren`s boot 15.5 full. Here we go again with another overlap. Just go with it, figuring on the usual reason of exhausting some factory parts stock in what is called a 'running change'.

JD450G 1987 736319 - 7 742814 - 7 755245 - 7 765934 - 7 771516 - 7 776122 - 7 784949 - 7 789485 - 8 805221 - End Note that there's no JD450F. That's a savvy marketing idea. Who wants to buy an 'F' in anything?? The source of the data is from a farm equipment quick reference guide that's intended to assist dealers in determining the year and current market value of trade-in equipment. The guide as such only lists the beginning serial number for each year.

I'm making the reasonable presumption that the last serial number for any given year is one less than the starting serial number for the successive year. Thanks to Digitup for sharing the relevent pages from his guide with us so we can determine what year a given machine is.

The 450Bs had turbo's dealer added and they found that when in confined areas the turbo helped burn fuel cleaner. The turbo just gave it a bit more snort and took some lag out of mid range that the 4219 was famous for.The engines were not turbo built yet but just dealer addons.I think that change came with the 4239 series engines.they also added one or two extra crank bearings and a new combustion chamber at the 4239 engines Now in your serial number the B is modle and the C is for crawler tractor is what this means.Digitup. Right B stands for the model and C stands for the C frame carring the 6 way blade.I saw one at auction, 450C instead of CC it was 450CJ.I ask the dealer and he looked it up J ment it was built with no blade.just draw bar.Ofcourse CL ment loader.I just saw another guy this week near binghamton NY trying to pass off his 450BC as a 450C.Anyways to my main point!I just bought a trade in.450CC s/n 389114.I looked up on list it showed 1982. Also on S/N plate beneath the S/N was place of MFG and the 2 numbers 83?

When picking up filters at dealer he looked up S/N came back with Factory invoice of 15APR83 Five Star dealer in Wysocks PA. It gave the Customer name delivery date 27APR83 and his name.Same guy who traded it in turns out. So the parts guy said it was a 83 not 82.so that must be why the 83 was stamped on SN plate? It showed warranty expired 27APR84 one year lator. Gave engine S/N which matched up. One thing, it had the build code and it said 9499 Winch Drive. The machine had no winch or PTO. I have the original owner phone number I might give him a call to see if any querks about machine and if it had a PTO or Winch. And what year he remembers buying it. The serial number, also called vehicle identification number, of steel-deck, walk-behind John Deere mowers is typically found on the left area of the mower deck. John Deere 100 Series tractors usually have a serial number on the frame close to the back left wheel, whereas zero-turn mowers have a serial number below the seat, atop the frame on the right section. Individuals can recognize a VIN by checking for a sticker with a print that says “Manufactured by John Deere.” Tractors built in the 1960s and 1970s typically contain around five to six letters and numbers only, although machines manufactured at a later period contain 13 to 17 letters and numbers. The first two characters in a VIN with 13 symbols or the first three characters in a VIN with 17 symbols are the factory code.

The subsequent four characters are the model number, while the remaining characters indicate the emission level designation, unique serial number, security code and manufacture date. The last characters also specify the transmission code and track or wheel designation.
